From: Point Lobos State Reserve on Thu, Oct 19, 1995 10:14 PM Subject: Dive Reservations at Point Lobos To: ba_diving@scuba.corp.sgi.com I received a message from Juia Velson asking that I put some diving reservation information on-line. Attached is a summary sheet that is being included with confirmation information that is sent to those who do make reservations. One of our Rangers, Jerry Loomis, was at the interspace conference in Monterey. He said that divers would like for us to keep the dive conditions posted. We are working on a Web page but don't have any money right now. Hopefully, a university will be interested in placing a camera that will supply nearly continuous updates of Whalers Cove. That would be quite a deal if divers could go to our web page and take a look at Whalers Cove before they drive down to Pt. Lobos. This may be beyond what we can do right now but it gives us a goal. Following is what is attached with dive reservation confirmation information: This reservation will be cancelled if Point Lobos has not received a $7.00 reservation fee check within one week of the date of this confirmation note. Please review the attached informaton sheet so we don't have any misunderstandings when you arrive at Pt. Lobos Make checks payable to the California Department of Parks and Recreation Point Lobos State Reserve Rt. 1, Box 62 Carmel, Ca 93923 Point Lobos Dive Reservation Information Sheet and Reservation Confirmation You are among the first to contact the Point Lobos Rangers via the internet. This information sheet is to let you know how the dive reservation system works and about the rules and regulations for diving at Point Lobos. The new reservation system will allow divers to make reservations via fax, e-mail and voice mail. At this time, only the e-mail is up and running. Although the e-mail is not completely functional, it will allow divers to send their reservation request to PtLobos@mbay.net. Each reservation request can be for one dive team for any one day. You can send requests in for more than one dive date but not for more than one team on any one of the days. In the past, reservations could be made as much as 28 days in advance. The new reservation system allows for reservations to be made as much as two months in advance. In the past, Mistix would begin answering the phone at 8:00 am. Our reservation system will answer the telephone 24 hours per day. If you want to make a reservation two months in advance, you could do it at one minute after midnight of the date which is two months before your dive date. Example: If you want to dive on December 25, you can make your reservation as early as October 25. Complete implementing of the new Point Lobos dive reservation system will take some time. It will be at least a month before most of this reservation system is working. Eventually, Point Lobos will have a Web page where you can check the availability of dive spaces before attempting to make a reservation. Once the main reservation computer is on-line, you will be able to phone (408)624-8413 and check the dive status for the following two month period. That computer should be on line by the middle of November. Until then, reservations can only be made through e-mail and I will respond to them with my computer at home. You may wonder what the big rush is. Many divers have been unhappy with the Mistix system. One of the requirements of implementing our own reservation system is that it not be a draw on our tight budget. Each reservation will cost the diver $7.00. That $7.00 will be used to make the initial purchase of a computer and for the other expenses such as hiring a part time employee to answer your reservation request. The rules for Point Lobos have not changed with the new reservations. Point Lobos opens at 9:00 am every day of the year. Space is available for fifteen teams of divers each day. Dogs are not permitted in Point Lobos It is not legal to take fish from Point Lobos. You can't even take fishing gear through Point Lobos. A dive team can have a maximum of three divers SCUBA and free divers are required to sign in as part of a dive team Divers must bring their sea card to get in. No card - No dive
